This got me worried and made me hold off. Immediate after that, I saw vids online of the new clips being easily breakable. With regards to the clicking noise, they fixed it with the upgraded toe clips (so I was like: yey). if they were ever going to innovate on this (yup, they marketed this hard this year and last) and if they were going to offer more boot options and open it to other brands (yup, DC and Nitro so far).boots too stiff (even Ruler) that it was borderline hard to ride.I’m talking about the bugs of the first version they have like (to name a few): Well these are cons but they aren’t really cons for you to fix but rather Burton’s. That helps to lessen the total price □ The Version 1 problems But when I really wanted it and I was in the store, it was just regular Step Ons and Ruler available, which turned out to be more than enough for me actually and exactly what I needed. I was also dreaming of getting the Genesis Step Ons too and maybe the fancy boots (e.g.: Swath/Photon). If I didn’t have this factor down, then I probably still would not have bought it…yet. ![]() I overcame this because I remembered I had work benefits and I realized I had to get a more proper-fitting boots anyways. It’s expensive and you have to buy bindings and boots. At the end of the day you know that I still got them but it’s definitely worth quickly mentioning those too. Sure Burton Step Ons are not perfect and there were some challenges along the way. (that you can overcome that I had to get over) The entry of your foot is way better compared to Flows, but I’ve tried Flows before and the “step in motion like a shoe” feels like it’s perfect when you’re on flats.īurton is different too, compared to traditional bindings, but I find Burton’s to be more practical. maybe this is better…”.īut based on the videos it just looks like you have to get it right perfectly every time. Honestly I was committed to buying Step Ons but when it came out, it got my attention and made me say: “hold on hold on…let’s not buy yet. With Clew, you’re basically walking around with half of your binding. But this isn’t specific to Step Ons anyways since with the other bindings, you’d still have to learn their own respective systems. I’d say that the only “payment” you have to do with this system is the learning curve. It’s actually just quick to get in and out with little to no compromise. ![]() If you said that the Step Ons are only secure 95% of the time, trust, they’d be at the bottom of the competition right now and they wouldn’t be popular and no one would buy them. It’s not going to fall when you ride, when you crash, or when you ride the lift.Īlso, it’s not like the other bindings have a tendency to come undone but rather this was a big point for Burton to lose. When used to approximate the Earth and calculate the distance on the Earth surface, it has an accuracy on the order of 10 meters over thousands of kilometers, which is more precise than the haversine formula. Lambert's formula (the formula used by the calculators above) is the method used to calculate the shortest distance along the surface of an ellipsoid. Because of this, Lambert's formula (an ellipsoidal-surface formula), more precisely approximates the surface of the Earth than the haversine formula (a spherical-surface formula) can. Results using the haversine formula may have an error of up to 0.5% because the Earth is not a perfect sphere, but an ellipsoid with a radius of 6,378 km (3,963 mi) at the equator and a radius of 6,357 km (3,950 mi) at a pole. The great-circle distance is the shortest distance between two points along the surface of a sphere. It is formed by the intersection of a plane and the sphere through the center point of the sphere. A great circle (also orthodrome) of a sphere is the largest circle that can be drawn on any given sphere. The haversine formula works by finding the great-circle distance between points of latitude and longitude on a sphere, which can be used to approximate distance on the Earth (since it is mostly spherical). In the haversine formula, d is the distance between two points along a great circle, r is the radius of the sphere, ϕ 1 and ϕ 2 are the latitudes of the two points, and λ 1 and λ 2 are the longitudes of the two points, all in radians. The haversine formula can be used to find the distance between two points on a sphere given their latitude and longitude: There are a number of ways to find the distance between two points along the Earth's surface. Given the two points (1, 3, 7) and (2, 4, 8), the distance between the points can be found as follows: d =ĭistance between two points on Earth's surface Like the 2D version of the formula, it does not matter which of two points is designated (x 1, y 1, z 1) or (x 2, y 2, z 2), as long as the corresponding points are used in the formula. Where (x 1, y 1, z 1) and (x 2, y 2, z 2) are the 3D coordinates of the two points involved. The distance between two points on a 3D coordinate plane can be found using the following distance formulaĭ = √ (x 2 - x 1) 2 + (y 2 - y 1) 2 + (z 2 - z 1) 2 For example, given the two points (1, 5) and (3, 2), either 3 or 1 could be designated as x 1 or x 2 as long as the corresponding y-values are used: The order of the points does not matter for the formula as long as the points chosen are consistent. Where (x 1, y 1) and (x 2, y 2) are the coordinates of the two points involved.
8/3/2023 0 Comments Cutting macro percentages![]() Over the past century fat and carbs have drifted towards each other in percentage terms as we have perfected modern agricultural practices, food processing and the widespread use of chemical fertilisers that have enabled us to double our food production. This drift towards similar intakes of carb and fat intakes is no longer only happening on an annual basis. ![]() This drift toward more hyperpalatable energy-dense fat+carb zone is accompanied by an increase in energy intake and a slowing of weight loss (and typically weight regain in the long term). After this initial period, they were encouraged to increase carbs or fat to the point that they thought was sustainable over the long term. Participants in the DIETFITS study were asked to reduce their carbs or fat as much as possible initially while still prioritising whole minimally processed foods. However, in spite of our best efforts, we tend to regress back towards a mixture of fat+carbs whenever they are available to us. The DIETFITS study showed that we can lose weight on either a low-carb (winter) or low-fat diet (summer). Activity levels are higher and total calorie intake is lower in summer and lower in winter.Carbohydrate intake is highest in summer and lowest in winter.Fat intake is lowest in spring when carbs are highest.Body weight is at the lowest at the end of summer and increases through autumn up to winter. But nevertheless, some degree of seasonal exists for humans as demonstrated by this data from obese humans from suburban Minnesota. In modern times, the variation in our environment is less extreme than it would have been in the past. There are numerous benefits in syncing our light exposure, food and sleep with the daily cycles.īut what if we are also adapted to an annual rhythm and our biology is synchronised to the annual seasonal rhythms? Could it be that nature not only provides the ideal food to prepare us for the coming season but that the foods that are available to us in each season also plays a role in regulating our body weight set point and therefore our appetite? We are beginning to accept that our biology is intimately linked to our daily circadian rhythm and the effect of light, temperature and food on our bodies. While hibernating bears are an extreme example of the way nature drives our chronobiology, before the adoption of agriculture, humans would have also experienced cyclical food availability that helped us to build fat for winter in autumn and lean muscle and fat loss in spring. In spring and summer, they’re out fishing for lean protein in the thawing river, building back up their muscles ready to start the process all over again ( PSMF).Through winter they hibernate and use up some of their fat (LCHF/keto).In autumn, these bears eat berries and fatty meat to get big (carbs+fat). While humans today are largely removed from the adaptive pressures of nature, for many animals like Beadnose the bear (pictured here in June 2018 and September 2018) getting fat in preparation for winter is a matter of life and death. In our modern food environment, we have a constant stream of supra-autumnal foods that help to fatten us up for a winter that never comes (see Why Our Food System is Screwed, Nutritional Myth Busting and Should You Eat Lancet). The unique foods available in different seasons not only provides for current and future needs but may actually stimulate/suppress your appetite to modify your body weight set point (see Escaping our Infinite Autumn). To survive, we had to adapt to extremes (see Don’t Eat for Winter). Nature provided more carbs in summer, more fat in winter and more lean protein and fibre in spring. To recap the discussion from previous articles: (If you don’t want to understand why this works, you can skip straight to the pie charts and tables further down).
